CLEVELAND — Major League Baseball isn't the only entity investigating Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz for violations related to sports gambling .

The Ohio Casino Control Commission is launching its own investigation into the matter. Major League Baseball has placed Clase and Ortiz on paid leave through at least Aug. 31.

The OCCC was notified June 30 by an Ohio licensed sports book and MLB of suspicious betting activity involving Guardians games, which triggered an independent investigation.

The Commission also investigated suspicious wagering activity involving the University of Alabama baseball team in April of 2023.
