Some of the most sought-after hiking terrain in Carson National Forest will temporarily close to the public later this month as Taos Pueblo holds tribal ceremonies in the area of Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico.

Carson National Forest announced it will temporarily close off public access to the Wheeler Peak and Williams Lake area near Taos from Aug. 21 to 28 for "local community, traditional purposes," the Forest Service said in a news release.
