Friday might be a good day to visit the Seattle Public Library’s central branch and listen to the pitter-patter of rain on its high glass ceiling, or meander through the Volunteer Park Conservatory’s greenery and watch the raindrops streak down the glass greenhouse.

We’re in for up to an inch and a half of “very heavy rain” across Western Washington on Friday in particular, said National Weather Service meteorologist Matthew Cullen.

The skies are looking dark Thursday as a “fairly strong” weather system approaches. Light rain will begin Thursday evening, bringing along a quarter to half an inch of rain, Cullen said.
