WETHERSFIELD, Conn. —

Summer is one of the most prime times for enjoying the outdoors across Connecticut with a bike ride, especially for kids and teens on summer break.

State officials are noticing many riders aren’t following safety rules and recommendations, which led to a spike in injuries and deaths since May.

On Wednesday, a 65-year old man died while trying to balance a 2x4 left in the road on his e-bike in East Haven.

Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz said this tragedy is the latest in a spike of deaths and injuries.
