A state housing bill that has received pushback from San Francisco lawmakers seems likely to have at least a modest effect on The City’s zoning map, according to an analysis conducted by The Examiner.
The measure — Senate Bill 79 — marks the latest legislative attempt by state Sen. Scott Wiener , who represents San Francisco, to push California cities to add more housing density around high-traffic transit hubs as a means of both addressing affordability problems and also boosting transit ridership.
The proposed legislation, currently under consideration in the state Assembly , would preempt local zoning regulations around certain public-transit stops.
