PHOENIX — The man who pleaded guilty to killing an Arizona state trooper in 2018 has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

Isaac King appeared in Maricopa County Superior Court on Thursday to learn his fate for killing Trooper Tyler Edenhofer on July 25, 2018.

King pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to a total of about 35 years for the 2018 killing and a separate case. Court officials noted how King reportedly attempted to withdraw from the plea agreement before the sentencing hearing.

Edenhofer was just weeks out of the agency's trooper academy when he was fatally shot on Interstate 10 near Avondale Boulevard. Edenhofer and several other officers were attempting to detain King when King got a hold of a trooper's gun and fired shots.
