The $18,000 raise voted by legislators for themselves and signed by Gov. Henry McMaster on June 4, 2025, was falsely labeled as designed to reimburse legislators for their fictional “in-district expense”, but in reality, the $18,000 is a grant of state funds to help incumbent legislators who voted for the raise to win re-election because the provision allows that the $18,000 can be spent for any and all purposes, including to pay for reelection expenses.

Letter to the editor - Time to consolidate counties in S.C.

The current 46 counties in South Carolina were created in the 1800’s in horse and buggy days when horses walked 4 miles in an hour and it took a day or more to ride from the edges of counties to the county seats to attend county court and pay county taxes.
