Red Bay police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after three people were found dead in an apartment complex the evening of Aug. 13.

Officers arrived on scene at the complex on Eugenia Nixon Circle and found the bodies around 6:30 p.m., WAAY 31 reports.

On Thursday, Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson identified the three people as 59-year-old Teresa Sappington, 28-year-old Leah Moody, and 23-year-old Derek Moody, according to the outlet.

Jackson told local outlets that investigators believe Derek beat their mother and sister to death with a baseball bat before killing themselves with a gun.

Jackson added that baseball bat and a gun were recovered from the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
