Edmonton police say nine shootings were recorded in July this year, a decrease from the 15 shootings recorded in June and 11 recorded in the same month in 2024.

However, year to date, there have been 81 shootings; a 2.5 per cent increase from the 79 reported during the same period in 2024.

According to police, of the nine shootings in July, eight were targeted and three resulted in injuries, but there were no deaths.

“This month, we’ve seen a decline in shootings compared to both last month and the same time last year,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Sean Jenkinson of the EPS Firearms Investigation Section. “Our commitment to tackling gun violence in Edmonton remains a priority with the goal of continued reduction and increased public safety.”
