LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The United Nations says nearly 12,000 children under the age of 5 were found to have acute malnutrition in Gaza in July, including more than 2,500 with severe malnutrition.

Doctors in Gaza say some of those dying or starving have chronic conditions, which make children more vulnerable to malnutrition. However, they add that those conditions are manageable when food and proper medical treatment are available. The U.N. says starvation and malnutrition in Gaza are at the highest levels since the war began.
