With Mayor Bruce Harrell’s support, King County is moving forward on placing a new 24/7 walk in crisis center on Capitol Hill.
The location, formerly a Polyclinic building, is tucked into a busy commercial area at Broadway and Union, close to Seattle University and a few blocks from the Pike-Pine core.
If the Metropolitan King County Council approves the proposal, the location would be the second of five crisis centers the county is building with the goal of expanding its mental health system. The expansion is funded by a $1.25 billion property-tax levy voters approved in 2023.
Only one center, in Kirkland, exists now, but by 2030 the county plans to open three more centers spread geographically around the county, plus a fifth that will specialize in serving youth.
