TONTITOWN -- Black smoke billowed up from a fire at the Eco-Vista Landfill starting about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Tontitown Mayor Angie Russell confirmed that afternoon.
The fire started in the portion of the landfill designated for construction waste -- sawn-off ends of board, drywall and other such materials -- according to Ryan Krug, chief of the Tontitown Fire Department. Firefighters remained at the site as of 8 p.m. putting the last of the fire out, but the fire had been contained by that time, he said.
WM Inc. personnel fought the fire along with the Tontitown department as well as the Wheeler, Farmington and Tontitown Area fire departments. The Springdale Fire Department was also en route to assist but were told their help would not be needed shortly after they were dispatched, Krug
