SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) - Thursday afternoon, Sioux City Joint Electrical Apprenticeship, also known as JTAC, officially opened its new training facility in Sergeant Bluff.
In the past, the company has rented out a space at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Leaders say that the space wasn’t big enough. That kept them from bringing in the number of apprentices they wanted.
Right now, they train 92 apprentices, but have enough space to teach over 160, which could help solve a shortage of electricians. Trainers say that for every 20 new apprentices brought into the industry, 25 electricians are retiring.
The training center will allow more people join the apprenticeship, but also keep up with changing technology.
