A shop on the corner of Main and East Cunningham streets has only been vacant for a few months, but will soon be filled by a tenant looking to offer fresh food in the city center.

The former Rite Aid located on Main Street will be occupied by a Dollar General in the coming months, Mayor Bob Dandoy confirmed at a city forum meeting Thursday, Aug. 14.

“The good news about that particular move is that it’s going to be a DG Market,” he said. “That means they’ll have groceries. They’ll offer produce, refrigerated and frozen food offerings, dairy products and more in addition to an assortment of fresh meat.”

Dandoy said the company aims to move by October of this year and will vacate its current location at 119 N. Main St.
