YAKIMA, Wash. – The State Fair Park in Yakima is buzzing with excitement as it hosts a new sprint boat racing event this weekend.

Event organizers announced that 25 boats will be racing, with gates opening at 9 a.m. and races starting at 10 a.m. The boats will reach speeds of around 80 miles per hour and experience up to 8-Gs in certain turns.

Drivers receive the course layout a day before the race to memorize the route. Each boat has a driver and a navigator who uses black or white gloves to signal which turn to take.
