PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — An undocumented Peoria mother and restaurant owner is facing deportation back to China and she’s requesting leniency from the Trump administration.

Kelly Yu left China in 2004, seeking asylum in the U.S. from China’s one-child policy. Since then, she’s opened two successful restaurants, raised a daughter and lived an otherwise law-abiding life.

But she hasn’t set foot inside her Peoria home since she was detained at an immigration hearing in May.

“I get a phone call around 1:30. It was her crying, and I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ And she said the words I will never forget. ‘Immigration got me. Please take care of the restaurant and my daughter,’” said Aldo Urquiza, Yu’s husband.
