WHITE PINE, Tenn. — A Jefferson County grand jury indicted a Newport man on Thursday on manslaughter and other charges in a deadly road rage shooting that happened nearly a year ago.

According to the White Pine Police Department, Derwin Wilds, 59, shot and killed 20-year-old Jordan Price around 5:20 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2024, after a confrontation on Roy Messer Highway.

Police said the road rage incident began near a traffic light south of the Interstate 81 intersection. Price and Wilds got into a fight, and Wilds shot Price once with a handgun during the confrontation, according to police.

Price was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and died at approximately 6 a.m.
