Middlesbrough are closing in on an eye-catching loan deal to sign young Manchester City midfielder Sverre Nypan - but talks over Metz forward Cheikh Sabaly have stalled.

Two deals that very much match Rob Edwards’ recent talk of trying to sign versatile players, Nypan is set to join Boro on loan just a month after the Norwegian signed from Rosenborg for £12.5 million. Though just 18, Nypan had already played 70 times for Rosenborg when he made the switch to City.

They were said to have been tracking the midfielder for a long time and have since spoken about their excitement for his ability already, and how much he can grow.
