President Donald Trump on Thursday railed against Democrats who have opposed his federal takeover in Washington, D.C.
Trump announced on Monday that he would be taking control of the Metropolitan Police Department and deploying hundreds of National Guard soldiers to the nation’s capital in an effort to combat crime. National Guard troops have since been spotted in the area.
While marking the 90th anniversary of Social Security, Trump addressed questions from reporters about his unprecedented decision — as city lawmakers have stressed that data shows a decades-low.
"Half of the people here, maybe all of the people here, most of you live in D.C. You are petrified to go out," Trump said in the Oval Office.
