Aston Villa have pushed through the rollout of the Premier League’s new digital ticketing plan - a change that has caused distress for many fans just days before the new campaign kicks off.
Unai Emery’s side play Newcastle United on Saturday (12.30pm) at Villa Park, and for the vast majority of supporters entry will now only be possible by scanning a digital match ticket stored in the official Villa app.
Most fans who requested a physical season ticket have been refused, with the club emailing them to explain that only those with a medical or accessibility-related requirement will be granted one.
