Within a year of setting foot in the valley, Andy Gilbert was mentoring kids who wanted to learn how to snowboard.

He started working for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation during the 1993-94 season as a development coach.

After over 30 years with the SVSEF, including being the snowboard program director since 1999, Gilbert, who was born in Sun Valley in 1970 and grew up in Portland, is stepping back into a consulting role with the organization.

“I’ve been the luckiest dude ever,” he said. “This job was not on the radar when I came here to be a snowboarder. It has given me an amazing life in snowboarding. It has allowed me to travel the world and show things I love with a passion to all these next generations of kids who have come back through the program.”
