The teacher cleared by a jury on 18 criminal counts remains fully employed by his district, but at a location where there are no students, 11 News has learned.

Matthew Schlegel was found not guilty in June on 18 criminal counts that included child sexual abuse in his third-grade classroom at Severna Park Elementary School over two years. The jury could not agree on three misdemeanor counts that were ultimately dismissed at the state’s request.

Schlegel, 45, is back on payroll at Anne Arundel County Public Schools. In a statement sent Thursday to 11 News, the district said Schlegel is not assigned to a classroom for the new school year:
