AURORA | Police are seeking careless driving charges against a motorist accused of fatally hitting one man and injuring another during a June auto-pedestrian crash.

“43-year-old Stephanie Sawyer was issued a summons Wednesday for Careless Driving Resulting in Death and Bodily Injury,” Aurora police said in a statement. “Formal charges will be filed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.”

One man was killed and another injured June 29 while walking on the shoulder of Himalaya Road in northeast Aurora when the men were struck by a car, police said was driven by Sawyer.

Investigators said three men were walking south on the shoulder of Himalaya north of East 64th Avenue when the crash occurred.

Two of the three men were struck from behind by a Mazda sedan.
