A VJ Day memorial has been unveiled at Middlesbrough Cenotaph on Friday.
The installation has been created to commemorate the end of World War Two. VJ (Victory over Japan) Day is observed every year on August 15, with the 80th anniversary falling in 2025. Flanked by two soldiers in silhouette and standing at nearly six feet, the letters VJ feature images of wartime planes while the number 80 is picked out in poppies.
The installation – near the memorial to Middlesbrough D-Day hero Stan Hollis – was created by Nunthorpe Parish Councillor Jon Rathmell and Middlesbrough Councillor Ian Morrish.
