CNN's Pamela Brown fired back at a Pentagon spokeswoman's insulting response to a question about her reporting.

The "Situation Room" co-anchor interviewed Pastor Doug Wilson, a self-described Christian nationalist who counts Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth among his flock, and he explained that his vision of society would forbid women from voting as individuals.

Pentagon spokeswoman Kingsley Wilson was asked whether the military's civilian leader agreed.

"Of course, the secretary thinks that women should have the right to vote," Wilson said. "That's a stupid question. To be honest with you, I'm very excited to see the incredible recruitment numbers not just for men and women, but just across every single branch of our military. It's truly a testament to his leadership."

The spokeswoman was then asked why Hegseth shared a video clip of Brown's interview with Wilson.

"As we have said on-the-record numerous times, the secretary is a proud member of a church that is affiliated with the Congregation of Reformed Evangelical Churches, which was founded by Pastor Doug Wilson," she said. "The secretary very much appreciates many of Mr. Wilson's writings and teachings."

Brown highlighted those comments during Friday's broadcast and rejected the spokeswoman's remarks.

"Of course, it's not a stupid question," Brown said, "because Hegseth literally retweeted our report with pastors and his church congregation saying that women should not have the right to vote, that it should be up to the household and households, in their view, are led by the man, the husband."

"When pressed on whether Hegseth disagreed with the pastors on other issues like criminalizing gay sex and turning the U.S. into a Christian theocracy," Brown added, "she reiterated the quote that Hegseth appreciates many of Wilson's writings and teachings, [but she was] 'not going to litigate every single aspect of what he may or may not believe in a certain video.'"
