The contribution of one of the unsung heroes of the Selma Voting Rights Movement is now being recognized with a historic marker.

Ernest Doyle was one of eight leaders who worked to revive the Dallas County Voters League.

They would become known as the Courageous Eight.

The group actively fought for the right to vote — and invited Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to come to Selma.

The historic marker will be placed near the Doyle Centre at 1506 Franklin Street.
