The Reeltown football team enters the season as defending state champions after dominating Tuscaloosa Academy 49-13 in last year’s Class 2A title game.

The Rebels return several key players from that championship squad, including junior quarterback Jamarkius Smith, who was named 2A MVP. Also back are wide receiver Alijah Woods and running back Traylen Roberts.

Woods, now a junior, believes last year’s championship experience will benefit the team’s confidence this season.

“Playing in state, you know, it’s always a crazy experience, especially as a sophomore. Like being on the sideline, my first time ever going to state at school,” Woods said. “But playing in it, the experience you get with it and the feeling, that’s all exciting.
