A woman was killed and 12 more people wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack on an apartment building in the Russian border city of Kursk overnight into Friday, Kursk acting regional Gov. Alexander Khinshtein said.

Khinshstein said the damage, which also included blown out windows in a school and undisclosed damage to a children's clinic, will be repaired "quickly".

The strikes came as Russian forces breached Ukrainian lines in a series of infiltrations in the country's industrial heartland of Donetsk.

Later on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump is meeting face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska for a high-stakes summit that could determine not only the trajectory of the war in Ukraine but also the fate of European security.
