With summer fading fast, a mom friend and I sought refuge at the Carolina Harbor Shore Club at Carowinds, mainly because our kids aren’t welcome there.

Tucked inside Carolina Harbor Waterpark, the adults-only destination features a swim-up bar called Paul Metto’s Boathouse Bar. It serves up colorful cocktails, plus a variety of beer, wine and frozen drinks.

We visited on a Tuesday afternoon and found the Shore Club refreshingly uncrowded, with just enough people to keep things interesting. There were no lines for drinks and plenty of space to float.

The drink menu leans tropical and playful, with standouts like the Dirty Myrtle, made with flavored rums (banana, dark, pineapple, mango or coconut) with orange juice, cranberry and a grenadine float. Cocktails and mocktails range from $10.9
