For a seasoned nurse like Rachel Fleming, a day at work has never been more busy. She has been a nurse in Peterborough for the past 10 years. While she enjoys what she does, she said the workload has become overwhelming.
On any given day she could be assigned anywhere from six to eight patients. It’s an amount of care and responsibility that for one person she said is far too much.

“It’s sad to say that our health care system is now at its breaking point,” Fleming said. “We are short staffed every single day. We have no regulation or expectation of how many patients will be coming in and working with. Most of the time we are coming in with at least five, six, sometimes eight patients assigned to us and that is not appropriate.”
