UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) -- Neighbors and firefighters stood on the sidewalk along East 95th Street Friday afternoon watching as a fire tore through a residential building.
The FDNY responded to a three-alarm fire between First and Second Avenues just before 10 a.m., leading to blocked off streets around E 95th Street and Second Avenue.
Video from social media and CitizenApp showed flames shooting from the ceiling and roof of the building. Residents say firefighters arrived quickly and everyone evacuated.
According to officials, there were gas fumes in the building's basement that caused a "pop." Three firefighters were injured while battling the flames but are expected to recover.
