Vice President JD Vance’s ongoing vacation in England took an “embarrassing turn on the golf course” on Friday after he was captured on camera struggling to sink his shot several times in a row on the putting green.
“Having travelled to Scotland to play Trump Turnberry – his boss’s course – Mr. Vance might well have wished he was sealed off from the rest of the planet as a painful four-putt was caught on camera,” reads a story published Friday in the British newspaper The Telegraph.
Vance is currently enjoying a 10-day stay at an 18th-century luxury manor house in Dean, a small community in Southern England, which he rents for nearly $11,000 a week. He’s described the trip as both a vacation and a diplomatic visit, having already met with David Lammy, UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, to fish and discuss the war in Ukraine.
The taxpayer-funded trip has already been fraught with controversy as Vance’s security detail has reportedly harassed locals and disrupted daily life for longtime residents. And now, Vance appears to have drawn further scrutiny – at least from golf enthusiasts – for his performance on the green.
“JD Vance’s UK holiday has been nothing if not eventful, but it took an embarrassing turn on the golf course with an excruciating four-putt,” The Telegraph wrote.
Vance was playing at Trump Turnberry, a golf resort in Scotland owned by the Trump Organization since 2014, and just one of 17 golf resorts and clubs owned by the organization worldwide. His trip comes just weeks after President Donald Trump played on the same course during his visit to Scotland, a trip estimated to cost taxpayers $10 million and described by critics as a marketing campaign.
