DES MOINES, Iowa —
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite modern directors, a guy you may not of heard of unless you’re into action and horror from Asian countries other than Japan or China. His name is Timo Tjahjanto (pronounced Chai-yon-toe) and he’s from Indonesia. He began his career co-directing with his friend Kimo Stamboel under the name The Mo Brothers.
After three films together, the two went on to their own solo projects. In 2018, Timo delivered a one-two punch to our cinematic senses with a brilliant and terrifying Evil Dead homage, May the Devil Take You , and one of the hardest hitting (pun intended) action films you’ll ever see, The Night Comes for Us . He has continued to work in both genres since then, and his output has been of a consistently high quality.
