BERLIN, Conn — A local food waste company says it has found a solution to the loud noise and foul odor coming from its facility in Berlin.

The solution came after people who live and work near the area voiced their concerns to town leaders in October 2024.

Bright Feeds spent more than $1 million on a thermal oxidizer machine to fix these issues.

“It's the highest level odor solution in the marketplace,” said Jonathan Fife, CEO of Bright Feeds.

He says that after the food waste went through the drying process in their building, it was released into the air, causing the lingering smell.

Now, with the thermal oxidizer, it passes through that machine instead.

“It heats all the air that passes through it at about 1,500 degrees to destroy organic compounds,” Fife said.
