FAIRLEA, WV (WVNS) -- The State Fair is home to all kinds of people, working, cooking, showing off the things they have accomplished over the past year.

It is also home to volunteers.

Karlee Dowdy was chosen as this year's Ronceverte River Festival Pageant Queen and she is one of those volunteers.

Dowdy volunteers at the Firehouse Diner, run by the Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department.

She said she feels it is important to volunteer because she wants to be an inspiration worthy of her crown.

"As a little girl I grew up in Ronceverte, so just having somebody to look up to was really important. And as I grew older, I just feel I was somebody who could fulfill that role. So, I feel really passionate about doing it, so I stepped up and I'm her now. So, hopefully I'm doing the same thing f
