Fans of the Michigan Renaissance Festival will see familiar faces and new attractions starting Saturday in Holly.

Festival marketing manager Alison Joslin, the festival’s marketing manager, said new general manager Chip Schultz has given the event “a good facelift.”

New this year: a wicked-wand workshop; Ninja warrior challenge; Viking invasion; and petting zoo.

The cast of characters remain the festival’s backbone because they stay in character for the entire weekend, she said.

“We have a resident cast that comes back year after year after year, like the baron and baroness,” she said. “The queen is not with us this year but we have the king and princess. Most of the cast are regulars that work for the Renaissance Festival. They love their roles.”
