A Calgary mother’s hopes of reuniting with her ailing father in Brazil hang in the balance after Air Canada’s last-minute cancellation left her and her family scrambling for alternatives.

As Air Canada’s looming strike and cancellations ripple through Canadian airports, travellers are rebooking flights, and the cost of airfare on other carriers is soaring.

Several months ago, Calgarian Barbara Gritti found out her father — who lives in Brazil — has Stage 4 colon cancer.
