Steve Henderson, a captain with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, died on August 14 following a two-vehicle collision near Walhalla.
Henderson, 49, had served for more than 19 years with the sheriff’s office.
In his role as captain, Henderson was the highest ranking member of the uniform patrol. He supervised 127 officers, according the sheriff’s office public information officer Lt. Graham McLellan.
“I don’t even know if I have the right words to put together – we’re all just still in shock right now,” McLellan said.
According to Oconee County Coroner Kevin Addis, Henderson was traveling on SC Highway 183 when the motorcycle he was riding collided with another vehicle.
Henderson was wearing a helmet.
