COLUMBIA, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A fight over who can use what bathroom in South Carolina may eventually go before the U.S. Supreme Court.
State Attorney General Alan Wilson said he wants justices to hear arguments after an appeals court said a transgender student from the Lowcountry can use the school bathroom that matches his gender identity.
South Carolina law requires students use bathrooms that match their biological sex but advocates argue the statute is demeaning to humanity.
“This seems to be a top-down tyrant-type of issue in South Carolina; it’s lawmakers who are obsessed with bathroom usage,” said Phil Ford with Alliance for Full Acceptance.
Last November, a lawsuit was filed arguing that denying a transgender Berkley County high school student access to the boys’ bathroo
