Long-overdue upgrades to Tulsa's aging system of levees are finally on the way, U.S. Sen. James Lankford told a group of Tulsans during a visit to the city on Friday.

Lankford, who is back in the state during Congress' August recess, was the featured speaker Friday at the Tulsa Republican Club's monthly luncheon at the Summit Club.

Several dozen protesters rallied outside during Lankford's visit, displaying signs critical of President Donald Trump and his policies.

From the Summit Club's 30th-floor ballroom where the luncheon was held, Lankford noted to the crowd the nice view the windows offered of the Arkansas River and its levee.
