OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - “I didn’t dream, I didn’t look beyond my circumstances.”

Racquel Henderson is no stranger to hardship.

“I struggled a lot. I think just not knowing my identity and not really finding my place in the world. It was kind of hard for me, just what I felt like were abandonment things… didn’t really make the best choices,” says Henderson.

After being adopted and growing up in a disadvantaged community, she became a mother at 15, survived domestic violence, endured homelessness and incarceration.

“It was my rock bottom but I needed it. It was then that I was forced to take a hard look at my life. Children of incarcerated parents have an increased risk of being incarcerated and so I was like I don’t want this for my daughter,” says Henderson.
