GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ms. America Wheelchair Competition is set to begin on Monday, bringing women from across the country to Grand Rapids to connect with one another, share their stories and advocate for disabilities.

One competitor is excited and nervous for the competition, but ready to continue sharing her story.

Rynita McGuire was born with arthrogryposis, which weakens the muscles and stiffens joints. She says the early part of her life was difficult, as she battled homelessness and an assortment of other challenges — that ultimately didn’t stop her.

Now, she is Ms. Wheelchair Michigan for 2025, a college professor and the only DJ in the world who can spin records with her mouth.
