LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Fayette County Public Schools will take new steps to decrease expenses because of an unexpected budget shortfall.
FCPS announced the changes in a letter from Superintendent Demetrus Liggins emailed to families on Friday.
Superintendent Liggins wrote that “in the past, we have failed to communicate budget and finance information in real time, and I have publicly pledged to do better going forward. In that spirit, I am writing today to share additional information about our budget.”
The district has a $16 million budget shortfall.
Earlier this summer, a budget solutions work group recommended reducing the district’s contingency budget from 6% to 4% as a solution to make up the deficit. This week, we learned that dipping into the contingency fund isn’t an option
