DUNCANSVILLE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A statewide initiative to expand broadband internet access to rural communities is picking up speed.

Representatives of the project were in Duncansville Friday to celebrate a milestone in the project. While thousands of rural households are still offline, state efforts to bring affordable, high-speed internet to all parts of Pennsylvania is finally connecting more and more households, with the expansion into Juniata Township now complete.

"In the modern economy, internet is no longer a luxury. It's necessary," said Dustin Bishop, Project Manager for Alleghenies Broadband, Inc. who is operating the project.

Bishop said with internet access being brought to Juniata Township, more people will be able to work and study from home and access telehealth services. But
