It’s the two-week countdown for Wake Forest’s opener against Kennesaw State, and the biggest question of the preseason camp has been who will start at quarterback.
The team went through a final scrimmage Friday at Allegacy Stadium, where the Demon Deacons will open the season on Aug. 29 against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m.
The two-man quarterback race is down to Robby Ashford, a transfer from South Carolina, and Deshawn Purdie, a transfer from Charlotte. Early in camp, freshman Steele Pizzella also was in the mix, but Coach Jake Dickert said recently that it was down to Ashford and Purdie.
Dickert was upbeat about the scrimmage even though there weren’t a lot of big plays. He was encouraged by what he saw but lamented the many penalties on offense.
