Leaders across Louisiana are reacting to the news of the New Orleans mayor being indicted.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell was indicted and accused of charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice, false statements, obstruction of justice and false declaration before a grand jury. Advertisement

Former New Orleans Police Department officer Jeffrey Vappie is facing new allegations in Cantrell's indictment.

Cantrell and Vappie are accused of exploiting their public positions to develop and implement a scheme to defraud the City of New Orleans.

Following the news of the indictment, members of the New Orleans City Council, as well as state and local lawmakers, issued statements regarding the charges.
