BC Hydro says its crews were able to get a first look at the damage to its systems from the Mount Underwood wildfire on Friday, but the full extent is still unknown.

In a tweet, the power company says its crews are working with BC Wildfire Service.

“The damage is significant and won’t be fully known until the damage assessment is complete,” BC Hydro said.

“Power restoration timelines will depend on the extent of damage to infrastructure, debris near or on power lines, and the stability of pole locations.”

Bamfield has been without power since the Mount Underwood wildfire started on Aug. 11.
