FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Hundreds of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school employees could lose their jobs this school year as the district prepares to present a reduction-in-force (RIF) plan to the Board of Education.
Nearly half of the district's 7,400 employees belong to the Forsyth County Association of Educators. Union President Jenny Easter said many of those members are bracing for the worst.
“I was heartbroken,” Easter said. “As you can assume, we’ve had a lot of people very nervous about are they gonna be chosen for the RIF.”
Per the recommendations of both a private consulting firm and the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor, the district will look at adjusting staffing to help fix the financial crisis.
