A new gelato shop in Guilford is being welcomed with open arms by the community.

The inclusive gelato shop The Wave, located at 116 Whitfield St., celebrated its grand opening on Monday.

It is owned by Tara Beatty, a special education teacher, and speech pathologist Keri Climie.

Beatty and Climie worked in the public education system and throughout the years working with special education students, they knew there was a need for more transitional opportunities.

That is where Beatty said the idea to start the nonprofit, SoundLife Connections came to be; which later developed into The Wave ice cream truck and most recently, The Wave ice cream shop.
