A 90-year-old man and his 87-year-old wife died Friday morning after their car was hit by a tractor-trailer while they left an Adams County senior living facility, according to state police.

Around 10:50 a.m., Edward McCartney, 90, was driving with his 87-year-old wife, Marjorie, as they left Paramount Senior Living in Franklin Township.

As McCartney turned left onto Chambersburg Road, a 2020 Western Star 4900 tractor-trailer, driven by a 44-year-old man, collided with the driver’s side of the McCartney’s Malibu, unable to stop in time.

Edward and Marjorie, both of Fayetteville, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said all three individuals involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
